Accessing and Using Webmail

Webmail will provide you will access to the majority of the features of your Outlook email account. Follow the steps below to access your campus email from any computer connected to the Internet.
NOTE: If you are using AOL, minimize the AOL browser once you are on the Internet. Open Internet Explorer and follow the steps below. Webmail will not function properly within the AOL browser.
1 Access the following URL: http://webmail.cui.edu. Click on logon now.

In the User name area, type in cui\ followed by the user name you use when logging on to the network here on campus. What you see in the illustration is typical if your name is Mickey Mouse. Some user names do not have the first name initial at the end.

Your Password is the same as you would use in logging into your computer if you were on campus.

3 The look and feel of this version of Webmail is much closer to the look you see in Outlook when on campus. The left column has two button options:

The first is the SHORTCUTS option as seen in the illustration to the left. This will allow you to access your Calendar and Contacts lists. You know the SHORTCUTS option is selected because the button is depressed.

Click on the FOLDERS button. This will bring up a folder tree similar to the one pictured on the right. You can use it to access Sent Items and the other options by clicking on that item.

The bar at the top of the screen will look and feel the same as your Outlook from campus. The icons perform the same functions, although they might be in a different order from what you see on campus.

A will generate a new mail message, contact form, etc.
B will allow you to reply or forward the message.
C will go to the server to send and receive messages.
D will search for a specific email in your inbox.
E will allow you to file the email into a folder.
F will delete the email and put it in your deleted (trash) folder.
G will empty your deleted folder on the server.
H will show or hide the preview pane.
I will search the global campus email address book.

5 Occasionally you may be accessing your email from a public machine. It is important that you exit the browser when you are done. Clicking the X at the upper right hand corner of the screen will exit the browser. Not closing the browser will leave your email account open to access by anyone who uses that computer. Exiting the browser is the only way to securely log off your account.
